Good! At last you see that you cannot make much progress with just the two pieces, so you move your Pawn to 7 vi to open the line of the Bishop. You offer to exchange Bishops, in order to get another piece in hand.

Generally you need at least two pieces in hand if you have only one piece on the ground near his King. If you have two active men on the ground, you may be able to mate with only one piece to drop.
